Biotechnology is considered the key technology of the future with great potential for resolving problems for almost all areas of life. An increasingly important role plays by the Industrial or the White Biotechnology, which uses the great potential of enzymes or whole cell systems for the sustainable production of fine chemicals, food and feed additives, agrochemical and pharmaceutical precursors as well as of technical enzymes and biofuels. The Industrial Biotechnology acts as a motor of innovation, for numerous important impulses for numerous application areas.

With the founding of the association, the way is open for further cross-link between the scientific and economic activities in the field of industrial biotechnology in Northern Germany and to raise public awareness. IBN is the catalyst for the Industrial Biotechnology in the north.
